Exel supply Wilmot-Budgen with a Heidelberg CX 102
Back in February this year, prior to lockdown, Peter Burford, Steve Williams and Richard Budgen from Wilmot-Budgen travelled with Ian Bendy, Exel’s UK Sales Director to inspect the press in Paris.
The CX 102 was located at a well-respected print shop specializing in high end, short run work which explained why the press was in such excellent condition and the impression count was so low for such a productive press.
Wilmot-Budgen produce commercial print, packaging and point of sale products, having developed long-term relationships with many high street retailers and are producing work for prestigious clients such as L’Oreal, Google, Coty and Estee Lauder.
The CX replaced their existing 2001 Heidelberg CD 102-6. Peter Burford, Director said, “The CD 102 was still producing quality work for our customers, but the press had its limitations due to its age and maintenance costs were rising. The production capabilities of the CX 102 would far exceed that of the CD, allowing capacity for new work from different markets. Having the coating unit opens up a range of new opportunities and the press is also specified with Inpress Control, ensuring consistently high quality and enhanced sustainability. This press future proofs our litho production for the foreseeable future.” Burford added, “Exel have a reputation for dealing in later model machines and I knew we could trust them to provide a quality press at the right price”.
Once the decision had been taken to replace the CD 102, all options were given serious consideration including new presses from the main suppliers. After a thorough evaluation it was decided the return on investment on a quality used machine was more financially viable, especially when factoring in any differences in specification on a new press being minimal and making little difference to real time production figures for their type of work.
Exel installed and commissioned the press in June with every aspect of the installation carried out with the same degree of planning, efficiency and diligence as you expect from a main supplier, from delivery through to installation, commissioning, colour management and integration of the press. We pride ourselves on offering a new experience in buying used.
